BIGHIT Music Has Issued a Notice on Legal Proceedings Against Violation of BTS' Artist Rights

BIGHIT Music, the powerhouse behind global sensation BTS, has taken a firm stance against the violation of their artists' rights, issuing a stern notice on impending legal proceedings. In a statement on its official app Weverse, released earlier today, BIGHIT Music announced its intention to pursue legal action against any individual or entity found to be infringing upon the rights of BTS members. The notice serves as a warning to those engaging in unauthorized use of BTS's intellectual property, including images, videos, and music.

The announcement comes amidst growing concerns over the rampant exploitation of artists' rights in the entertainment industry. BIGHIT Music, known for its unwavering dedication to protecting its artists, is poised to take decisive measures to safeguard BTS's creative work and image. The notice serves as a reminder to fans, media outlets, and businesses alike to respect BTS's privacy and humanity. This move by BIGHIT Music retaliates the importance of protecting artists' rights in an industry increasingly plagued by piracy, unauthorized use of intellectual property, lack of privacy for celebrities and even personal attacks on the members. As BTS continues to dominate the global music scene, ensuring the protection of their creative output and right to privacy remains a top priority for their management company.

Fans and industry observers have praised BIGHIT Music's proactive approach to safeguarding BTS's rights, expressing solidarity with the company's efforts to combat infringement. With legal proceedings imminent, those tempted to exploit BTS's popularity for personal gain are on notice: BIGHIT Music is prepared to take swift and decisive action to defend its artists' rights. The statement read,

Hello.
This is BIGHIT MUSIC.

We wish to update you on the legal proceedings being taken to protect BTS members' rights.

It has come to our attention that organizational efforts aimed at tarnishing and slandering the artists have escalated in recent weeks. Furthermore, malicious attempts to defame, humiliate and ridicule the artists or spread rumors and groundless information have become excessive.

The company views these actions as severe violation to the artists' rights and will respond decisively, engaging with another law firm to reinforce our existing legal measures.

We are collecting evidence of malicious postings through real-time monitoring as we speak. We will maintain a zero-tolerance policy and pursue this matter rigorously, without leniency or settlements.

Thank you.

On March 29th the company issued an update of the legal proceedings that the company took against malicious individuals or groups. The statement mentioned that they have been collecting such information since 2022 and several people have been indicted. Information collected included, malicious posts about BTS and the individual members in real time, defamation, personal attacks, sexual harassment, the spread of groundless information, and ill-intentioned criticism. The label is taking no leniency when it comes to protecting their artists.

Hello.
This is BIGHIT MUSIC.

Our company regularly initiates legal proceedings against perpetrators of malicious activities related to BTS, including defamation, personal attacks, sexual harassment, the spread of groundless information, and ill-intentioned criticism. We would like to provide an update on these activities.

During this quarter, we filed multiple criminal complaints with law enforcement agencies based on evidence related to acts infringing on the rights of the artists, including defamation, submitted by our fans as well as collected through our own monitoring.

Our previous notice mentioned an individual who impersonated a BTS member and leaked unreleased music. The individual who was arrested and indicted under additional criminal charges for this matter expressed the intention to apologize before the verdict was announced. However, we have made it clear that we will not agree to any settlement. As a result, an additional prison sentence has been imposed on top of the existing sentence. We will continue to take strong legal action against blatant criminal acts, such as impersonating members and collecting and leaking undisclosed information, even if it takes time.

We are continuing to monitor and collect malicious posts about BTS and the individual members in real time even as all the members are currently fulfilling their military service obligations. We have compiled and included in the criminal complaints all serious insults, ridicule, malicious rumors, and false information directed at the artists. In particular, we are resolutely applying a zero-tolerance policy as we respond to maliciously manipulated defamatory postings about the artists’ military service across all channels, including social media, websites, and online communities.

After a lengthy investigation begun in 2022, the authors of numerous slanderous comments and vulgar postings with the intent to ridicule the artists were each indicted on charges of defamation and insult, and were ultimately found guilty by the court and sentenced to fines of up to several million won. We would also like to inform you that we are taking strict legal action by filing civil lawsuits as well as criminal charges depending on the case.

BIGHIT MUSIC regularly collects information on malicious postings regarding BTS, reports them to the authorities, and takes legal action. We will continue taking legal action without interruption, even while the members are fulfilling their military service. We will continue to adhere to strict measures and our policy of no settlement and no leniency to hold suspects accountable.

We ask that you make continued use of our legal affairs hotline (protect@bighitmusic.co.kr) to report any cases of abuse.

We are always grateful for the affection and dedication shown by the fans of BTS. BIGHIT MUSIC will continue to work to ensure that the rights of our artists are fully protected.

Thank you.
