Park Jimin aka Jimin of BTS, an Introduction

Park Ji-min, known by his stage name Jimin, was born on October 13, 1995, in South Korea. He is a singer, songwriter, and dancer, renowned for his contributions as a member of the immensely popular South Korean boy band BTS, under the record label Big Hit Entertainment. Jimin has showcased his solo talents through various releases. Under BTS' name, he has delivered three solo tracks—"Lie" in 2016, "Serendipity" in 2017, and "Filter" in 2020—all of which achieved chart success on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart. In 2018, Jimin released his first credited solo song, the digital track "Promise," which he co-wrote. Additionally, he collaborated with Ha Sung-woon on the duet "With You" for the soundtrack of the TvN drama "Our Blues" in 2022.

The pinnacle of Jimin's solo career came with the release of his debut solo album, "Face," in 2023. The album made waves, debuting at number one in South Korea and Japan, and reaching number two in the United States. Its second single, "Like Crazy," soared to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Jimin the highest-charting Korean solo artist in Billboard history at the time. This achievement marked a significant milestone, as he became the first Korean solo artist to debut atop the Hot 100 chart. Jimin's success as a solo artist further solidified his status as a trailblazer in the global music industry.

In 2017, during BTS' Wings Tour, Jimin faced health issues and was unable to participate in the show in Macau due to neck and shoulder cramping. The following year, while in London for the Love Yourself World Tour, he had to withdraw from the band's scheduled performance on The Graham Norton Show due to severe muscle pain in his neck and back, as stated by Big Hit Entertainment.

In 2018, both "Serendipity" and "Lie" achieved a significant milestone by surpassing fifty million streams on Spotify. Shortly thereafter, the full-length version of "Serendipity" from BTS' album "Love Yourself: Answer" (2018) also reached this milestone in early 2019. Jimin's achievement was remarkable as he became the first Korean artist to have three solo tracks accumulate over 50 million streams each. This surpassed the previous record held by Psy, who had crossed the 50 million streams mark twice with "Gangnam Style" (2012) and "Gentleman" (2013).

Both "Serendipity" and "Lie" were the only solo tracks by a BTS member included in the Official Charts Company's (OCC) list of the top 20 most streamed BTS songs in the United Kingdom as of October 2018. "Serendipity" ranked at number 17 and "Lie" at number 19, underscoring Jimin's popularity and the widespread appeal of his solo music among global audiences.

In May 2019, Jimin became the first BTS member to have a solo music video achieve 100 million views on YouTube when "Serendipity" surpassed the milestone. Jimin achieved a significant milestone with his track "Filter" by earning his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at number 87 on the chart. Additionally, "Filter" marked his first number one on the World Digital Song Sales chart, solidifying his solo success on a global scale.

The song made history as it set the record for the biggest streaming debut among all Korean songs on Spotify, accumulating over 2.2 million streams within its first 24 hours of release. Furthermore, "Filter" became the fastest Korean solo track in Spotify's history to surpass 20–60 million streams, highlighting Jimin's immense popularity and influence as a solo artist. "Filter" received widespread acclaim and recognition, being the only solo album track by BTS to receive a Song of the Year nomination at the Gaon Chart Music Awards. Moreover, in March 2021, "Filter" joined the ranks of BTS' chart-topping hits, becoming the 15th BTS song to spend a full year on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart.

Continuing its chart dominance, "Filter" remained a fixture on the rankings, holding the title of the longest-charting Korean song released in 2020 on the World Digital Song Sales chart. As of the issue dated October 9, 2021, it had spent an impressive 80 weeks on the chart, further solidifying Jimin's position as a powerhouse in the music industry.

In 2022, Jimin faced another health setback when he was hospitalized after experiencing abdominal pain and a mild sore throat. He underwent appendicitis surgery on January 31 and also received a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.

Jimin was announced as a global ambassador for Dior later that month, and as a brand ambassador for Tiffany & Co. in March.

Jimin's highly anticipated debut solo album, "FACE," was released on March 24 to immense acclaim and success. The album shattered records, debuting at number one in both South Korea and Japan, and reaching number two on the US Billboard 200 chart. This remarkable achievement solidified Jimin's status as the highest-charting Korean solo artist of all time on the prestigious Billboard 200.

"FACE" was accompanied by two standout singles: "Set Me Free Pt. 2" and "Like Crazy," released on March 17 and 24 respectively. Both singles made waves on the charts, with "Set Me Free Pt. 2" debuting at number 30 on the Hot 100, while "Like Crazy" soared to the top spot, making Jimin the first South Korean solo artist in history to achieve a number one hit on the chart.

In addition to his solo endeavors, Jimin made a memorable appearance as a featured artist on the single "Angel Pt. 1" by Kodak Black and NLE Choppa, alongside Jvke and Muni Long. The song was included as part of the soundtrack for the film Fast X, further showcasing Jimin's versatility and influence in the music industry.

Jimin has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting education and charitable causes throughout his career. From 2016 to 2018, he covered the uniform expenses of students at his former school, Busan Hodong Elementary School. When the school faced closure, Jimin generously donated summer and winter uniforms to the graduating students and gifted autographed albums to the entire student body.

In early 2019, Jimin continued his philanthropic efforts by donating ₩100 million to the Busan Department of Education, with a portion allocated to his alma mater, Busan Arts High School, to support students from low-income families. His dedication to education extended further in July 2020 when he contributed ₩100 million to the Jeonnam Future Education Foundation, establishing a scholarship fund for talented students facing financial hardships in South Jeolla Province.

Additionally, Jimin has shown compassion for health-related causes. In July 2021, he donated ₩100 million to Rotary International to aid polio patients, a donation that was publicly acknowledged by the Go-seong Rotary Club. He was later recognized as a member of the Green Noble Club for his substantial contributions to the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation. Furthering his philanthropic endeavors, in February 2023, Jimin donated ₩100 million through the Korean UNICEF Committee to provide emergency relief for children affected by the Turkey–Syria earthquake. His generosity and commitment to making a positive impact on society continue to inspire fans and admirers worldwide.

On November 22, 2023, Big Hit announced via Weverse that Jimin, along with his bandmates RM, V, and Jungkook, had commenced the enlistment process to fulfill their mandatory military service. Jimin began his military service on December 12.
