BTS RECEIVES 5 NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2020 MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS (EMA)


On October 6th the 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) announced its nominees. The 2020 MTV EMA will include three new awards: “Best Latin,” “Video for Good” and “Best Virtual Live.” Fans vote for their favorites on mtvema.com and through social media.  BTS has received five nominations this year. Best Song (Dynamite), Best Pop (Dynamite), Best Group (BTS), Biggest Fans (ARMY) and Best Virtual Live (Bang Bang Con: The Live). The show will be airing globally on Sunday, November 8, 2020.

“Dynamite” debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the band’s first number-one single in the United States and making BTS the first all-South Korean act to top the Hot 100. The song sold 265,000 downloads in its first week, marking the biggest pure sales week. “Dynamite” debuted with 7.778 million streams, marking the biggest opening-day for a song in 2020. “Dynamite” peaked at number one on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, topping the latter for three consecutive weeks. According to reports by Spotify, BTS listeners have increased by a whopping 300% since they released their latest song “Dynamite”,

When the ‘Dynamite’ video premiered at 12:00AM EST, it garnered over 3 million peak concurrent viewers. It became the fastest YouTube video to reach 10 million views, doing so after only 20 minutes of release, and the most viewed YouTube video in the first 24 hours, earning 101.1 million views and setting three new Guinness World Records. The music video is the fastest in YouTube history to cross the 200 million mark, in just four days and twelve hours after release, and the fastest by a music group to surpass 400 million views, doing so on September 26, 35 days after release.

BTS’ “Dynamite” debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the group’s first number-one single in the US and their fourth top-10 entry. BTS became the first all-South Korean act in Hot 100 history to debut at number one. They also became the first Asian act to chart a number one song in the country since Kyu Sakamoto with “Sukiyaki” (1963). “Dynamite” sold 300,000 units in its first week, including download, vinyl and cassette physical versions. It earned 33.9 million total US on-demand streams and 11.6 million radio impressions. “Dynamite” also debuted atop the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart, selling 265,000 downloads—the biggest pure sales week.

When BTS donated $1 million to Black Lives Matter, in just over 24 hours, a team of ARMY, called One in an Army, had raised $1,026,531 thanks to 35,609 donors, through the hashtag #MatchAMillion.  One in an Army is a group of volunteers who use the fandom’s collective power to make a difference.

According to Big Hit metrics, the show reached a peak of 756,000 concurrent viewers in 107 countries and territories. Attendance was the equivalent of 15 shows at a 50,000 seat stadium and was the biggest audience for a paid virtual concert. Big Hit added that the concert also helped grow BTS’ fan club, known as the ARMY, by 10,000 members. The online presentation was delivered through six multi-view screens playing simultaneously. Fans were able to choose from video call-like close ups to full shots that encapsulate the group’s highly synchronized choreography. The group played a 12-track setlist comprised of “DOPE,” “Boyz with Fun,” “Like,” “Just One Day,” “Jamais Vu,” “Respect,” “Friends,” “Black Swan,” “Boy With Luv (Feat. Halsey),” “Go Go,” “Anpanman” and “Spring Day.”
