bts rm's united nations speech featured in chilean language textbook for 12-13 year olds

RM’s speech at UN is included in a Chilean Literature & Language book for 12–13-year-old students. He appears in the first unity of the book which invites students to ‘connect with what awakens emotions in them, with what they like and dislike, and to think about how discovering these feelings shapes their identity.’ Kim Nam-joon aka RM, South Korean rapper, songwriter, and record producer. He is the leader of South Korean boy band BTS. RM released his first solo mixtape, RM, in 2015, followed by his second mixtape, Mono, in 2018. The latter became the highest-charting album by a Korean soloist in the United States in history when it peaked at number 26 on the Billboard 200.

RM made his official solo debut in 2022 with the release of his studio album Indigo, which featured contributions from Erykah Badu and Anderson. Paak. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard 200, becoming the highest-charting album by a Korean soloist of all-time. He has also collaborated with artists such as Wale, Younha, Warren G, Gaeko, Krizz Kaliko, MFBTY, Fall Out Boy, Primary, and Lil Nas X.

The question was:

“According to #RM, what happened when he tried to fit other’s standards? How does this relate to the idea of ‘losing identity’?”

The influence of K-pop extends beyond the realm of music and entertainment, making its way into unexpected places such as the Chilean educational system. In a surprising development, RM from BTS, a prominent figure in the genre, has been featured in a seventh-grade Language and Literature textbook distributed by the Ministry of Education. RM's inclusion in the textbook stems from his impactful speech delivered at the United Nations General Assembly, which serves as a focal point for learning in the classroom. The speech, in which RM, also known as Kim Namjoon, emphasized the importance of finding one's own voice and advocating for oneself, has been incorporated into the curriculum to inspire reflection and discussion among students.

Specifically, the lesson encourages students to engage with RM's words and contemplate their significance. By studying RM's speech, students are prompted to consider the value of individual expression and the power of using one's voice to effect change. This initiative highlights the educational potential of pop culture and its ability to resonate with young learners. By integrating RM's message into the curriculum, educators aim to spark meaningful dialogue and empower students to find their voices in society.

As BTS continues to make waves on the global stage, RM's presence in the Chilean classroom serves as a testament to the far-reaching impact of K-pop and its ability to inspire and educate across cultures and borders.
