According to a poll held by kpopmap, RM is the K-Pop rapper with the best pen game. RM received 67.5% votes which translates to 10,777 votes overall. The poll was held from 26th March to 1st April 2024. The poll pitted the BTS lead rapper against, Straykid’s ChangBin 31.4% 5,017 votes, Monsta x’s JooHoney 0.6% 100 votes, B.1 0.4% 64 votes, CL 0.0% 5 votes, ATEEZ’s HongJoong 0.0% 5 votes, (G) I-DLE’s SoYeon 0.0% 4 votes, MAMAMOO’s MoonByul 0.0% 1 vote. This is a fan voted poll which shows that the fans recognize RM lyricism. As of November 2023, RM has accumulated a remarkable portfolio of 218 songs accredited to his name as a songwriter and composer, according to the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA). This achievement places him as the youngest and second most-credited songwriter in the association's history.

Among RM's credits are solo compositions for his fellow BTS members, musical contributions to various collaborative projects, and the creation of two tracks for former labelmate Glam prior to their disbandment. In December 2020, RM attained another milestone when he debuted at number three on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters Chart. This recognition came on the heels of six songs that he co-wrote for BTS' fifth Korean-language studio album, Be, which concurrently charted on the Billboard Hot 100.
